What we do

Food for Peace is a community-based organization dedicated to nourishing futures through our school feeding programs and holistic education support.

We provide daily nutritious meals to schoolchildren, ensuring they have the energy to learn and grow while combating classroom hunger. Beyond meals, we implement nutrition education, and mentorship programs to create sustainable food systems within educational communities.

Our Journey

From Adversity to Action

Our founders didn't just witness the challenges facing their community - they lived them. From food insecurity to limited educational opportunities, from health challenges to economic hardship, these ten women experienced firsthand what it means to struggle.

But instead of being defeated by these challenges, they were inspired to act. They understood that sustainable change requires authentic leadership from within the community.

Ubuntu in Action

The Ubuntu philosophy - "I am because we are" - isn't just a motto for us; it's a lived reality. Our founders recognized that their individual wellbeing was intrinsically connected to the wellbeing of their entire community.

This understanding drives our holistic approach, addressing not just immediate needs but the interconnected systems that perpetuate poverty and insecurity.

Why did the Ten Marakwet Girls come together?

As women from The Great Kerio Valley escarpment, we find it intolerable and profoundly unfair that the simple fact that where you are born determines the rest of your life and your future. Life should not be a gamble. We have leant to give not because we have much, but because we know how exactly it feels to have nothing. We want the lost Glory of the Valley to come back to life.
